To think
that nothing is above true friendship, and to say that great friendships come
with greater sacrifices; this book did full justice to its plot, narration and
story. The writer has very finely knitted the emotions of a soldier’s family,
his friends, love and his fearless heart when he is at the border, serving his
nation and presented it in a platter full of strong characters like Arpan,
Sameer, Shraddha and of course their families.
A magnified
view of the personal life of a an armyman,
this book will instantly connect with those having an army
background. The story revolves around
two best friends- Arpan and Sameer and their pasts.
Starting
from the innocence of childhood, school days, friends, first love to surviving
on the battlefield, this tale will engage you in an emotional whirlwind.
The story is
narrated by Arpan about how they flourished together from being kids to boys to
men and how they joined the army together. He juggles his narration around
Sam’s life, his past, why he was the
ultra charming bad boy and was a favorite among girls. Arpan explains how Sam
was a born winner and yet he ends up being the saddest person he knew.
Arpan is
madly in love with Shraddha, a girl who was raised in a typical Indian family,
who, on the other hand, runs away with Sam, the bad boy, succeeding which
something terrible happens to her father, something that affects her in a way
that she absolutely refuses to be with Sam ever again. Arpan, on the other
hand, is intense in nature and more of an introvert.
I liked how
after every chapter, the writer has intensified the breadth of his characters.
The climax,
however, seems to be more like a bollywood movie scene and you must read the
book. It would be unfair to reveal more about the book that’d keep you hooked.
Being a
poetry lover, I also appreciate the writer’s ability to fit some soul stirring
verses amid the powerfulness of the story line.
Overall, it’s a good story and is worth a read.
I would love to read more of the writer’s work.
One thing
that totally blew all the positives of this book was bad editing. The editor
didn’t do justice to his part and thus, it should be focused upon from the
next time.
Also, the
cover of the book might not attract you to pick up the book and actually read
it. It could have been designed in a better way. I’d suggest you to start
reading it anyway, if you are an admirer
of a good story line.
I give it 3
out of 5 stars overall, and I believe is definitely worth a read!
